Just launch Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10, and at a place called tuxradar.com have made a video where they compare the boot process:

1. Windows Vista
2. Windows 7
3. Ubuntu 9.04 and
4. Ubuntu 9.10

The comparison has been made with the same 64-bit computers with 64-bit operating systems.

Ubuntu 9.10 Clearly the winner 32 seconds starts up faster than Windows 7. As a curiosity to see that Ubuntu 9.10 improvement in speed to his younger brother, but Ubuntu 9.04, Windows 7 is not improvement on Windows Vista if not worse.
